The New Workshop is nearly completed

Hugh and his team are about to move into the Conservation Training Workshop where they will refurbish the historic Woolmill textile machinery. This is a beautiful building constructed of wood with a metal roof and timber cladding. It is heated by a wood pellet boiler and the walls insulated with sheep’s wool. Continued

Our Open Day in August

Open DayOver 200 people attended our Sustainability Open Day in August. Knockando’s refurbished Margach Hall looked splendid decked out in tweed bunting and was host to exhibitors demonstrating how we could reduce our carbon consumption.

Shuttle buses took groups to the Woolmill site where they were given escorted tours by Sandra and Annabelle.

Huge thanks to everybody who helped and supported us. We’ll have to arrange a repeat performance next year.

Topping Out Ceremony

We are holding a small ceremony on 1st November to mark the completion of the Conservation Training Workshop. If you are interested in attending, please contact jana@glenarder.com for more details.

Meet our Business Start Up Co-ordinator

Moira GillespieMoira Gillespie is responsible for developing the business side of the project: visitors, education and manufacturing, so we can be ready to trade as soon as the Woolmill is open to the public in the summer of 2012.

Moira’s finest hour was organising the logistics for the Woollmill Open Day with a clip board and a walkie talkie!

Silence at the Mill

Hugh has woven his last warp and for the first time in over 200 years, the Woolmill is silent.

The machinery is now being carefully recorded, packed and transported to the new workshop for repair. Visit our blog to see a short video clip.

How you can help

To date we have secured funding commitments of more than £3.4 million - including £1.3 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund. But we still need your help! If you know anyone who might like to become a Friend of Knockando Woolmill, please do forward a copy of this newsletter or ask them to visit our website at www.knockandowoolmill.org.uk

Best wishes,

Knockando Woolmill Trust
