Having a picnic in the great outdoors is one of the UK's most enjoyable summer traditions!
To honour National Picnic Week which takes place from the 15th - 24th June, we have compiled a list of our 5 places to enjoy a picnic in Moray Speyside!
- Alice Littler Park, Aberlour
After picking up some deli food from the Spey Larder head down to Alice Littler Park where there are plenty of picnic benches to choose from. After the picnic you can enjoy a walk along the bank of the River Spey and watch for fish jumping. There’s also a play park for the kids! Alice Littler Park is only a few minutes walk from the Speyside Visitor centre which provides local tourist information – accommodation, places to eat, events and local attractions including distillery visits.
- Millbuies Country Park, Elgin
Millbuies Country Park is located 4 miles south of Elgin on the road to Rothes. Millbuies is the perfect location for a variety of family orientated activities! There’s a large grass area perfect for games, along with barbecue points and picnic benches. To walk off the delicious sweet treats from the picnic take a walk around the loch keeping a lookout for wildlife such as red squirrels, rabbits and badgers! The loch is also stocked with trout.
- Califer Hill Viewpoint, Forres
Califer Hill Viewpoint offers a picnic location with an incredible view! Located five miles from Forres, the viewpoint offers breath-taking views of the Moray Firth, Findhorn Bay and further afield to the Black Isle.
- Roseisle Forest and Beach, Roseisle
Located between Findhorn and Burghead, Roseisle Beach is sandy beach backed against a pinewood forest. There are plenty of picnic tables scattered throughout the trees near the carpark, along with some purpose-built barbecues. If you want to bring your own disposable barbecue there are ceramic tiles on some of the benches. Toilet are available March – October. Please be aware of the carparking charges – make sure you take some loose change with you!
- Knockando Woolmill, Knockando
We couldn't miss out the Woolmill! After you have explored the site and learnt about the processes involved in converting fibre to fabric, you can sit down and relax in the Woolmill garden and listen to the birds chirping, the waterwheel turning and the water flowing down the burn. You can lay a blanket out on the grass or you can use the picnic bench. To accompany your picnic you can buy a barista coffee or a delicious hot chocolate from our coffee house, Red Roof Coffee!
