Dobcross Pattern Chain

When we want to weave a new item on the Dobcross loom, a new Dobcross pattern chain needs to be created. This chain distinguishes the pattern of what is woven, such as tartan scarves or tweed fabric. 

The below photo shows Peter preparing the chains in c.1976.

Dobcross Looms were the work horses of textile manufacturing in industrial Britain. With over a million of these machines made, those at Knockando Woolmill are early examples dating back to 1896 and 1899. Our 1899 Dobcross loom is thought to be one of the oldest ones still working in Scotland today!
